Rachel Bertone has gracefully picked up the baton Robert Eagle put down after 52 years leading the Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston. Eagle retired in June 2021, and Bertone signed on as artistic director in February 2022. After taking the handoff, she has run with it, and the results speak for themselves. She has lured a covey of fine actors and designers to spend the summer with her in Waltham.

It's easy to be cynical about "Disney's The Little Mermaid," whose transparent goal to cash in on the popularity of the 1989 animated gem is right there in the cumbersome corporate branding of the stage musical's title. But it's hard to maintain that cynicism - at least in the moment - when a theater is vibrating with enthusiasm the way Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston was last Friday night, largely generated by the younger audience members at whom the musical is aimed.

Reagle Music Theatre brings nothing but immersive joy to their stage in Waltham with the Disney Broadway musical, "THE LITTLE MERMAID" which features a superb ensemble and impressive use of Broadway-caliber production values.

We really want our Ariel to embrace her independence and freethinking nature. Like Ariel, our Prince Eric is also a freethinker. He is also more boyish. One of the challenges has come from the fact that this show was a huge undertaking on Broadway. Disney spent millions on every bell and whistle.

When Jack Mullen steps onstage as Scuttle, The Seagull, in "The Little Mermaid" at Reagle Music Theatre, he'll bring with him more professional experience than the average 21-year-old might offer.

The program in Waltham focuses on education by putting a priority on process over product. WBZ-TV's Courtney Cole reports.

From the first few divine notes of the show's opening number, Oh, What a Beautiful Morning captured vividly by Jared Troilo's charismatic Curly, Troilo creates one morning not to be missed. Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston's Oklahoma! combines top notch choreography, a jubilant cast, and an interactive set that invites the audience to settle into its own home on the range.

This "astonishingly good" production of a musical theater staple gets points for its incorporation of what Byrne describes as "this unbelievably moving dream ballet, which often gets cut in other productions," all choreographed by director Rachel Bertone. Ehlers says he was "equally as bowled over by 'Oklahoma!.' ... I was amazed by what Rachel pulled off. It's great to see a musical that is so lovingly recreated."

Kayla Shimizu, who stars as Laurey in "Oklahoma!" and Ariel in "The Little Mermaid" at Waltham's Reagle Music Theatre this summer, has one objective. "My goal is to de-ingenue them," says the 29-year-old singer, dancer, and actor. "I want to make these characters quirky and independent and feisty. I think about Laurey as a Jo March ['Little Women'] kind of woman."

Reagle Music Theatre in Waltham offers up an absolutely gorgeous production of the musical "OKLAHOMA!" that does not hold anything back, giving us a dynamic cast, terrific scenic design, phenomenal accompaniment and high caliber, high stepping choreography. In other words: "Oh, what a beautiful show." It is.

If you love the experience of a fully staged Broadway production but curse venturing into Boston, emptying your piggy bank for parking, finding decent dining without four dollar signs next to its name and then adding tickets that cost three digits for each one, note!!! Broadway has landed back in Waltham this summer at The Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston that is easily located at 617 Lexington St. in Waltham... with free parking and near a number of great restaurants.

Nearly three hours in length, this production of Oklahoma! is not just a fanciful surrey ride - or a quick romp in the hay - that sends you out of the theatre humming happy tunes. Rather, you experience the full range of human emotions that emerge from outstanding live performance; gratitude when the dark moments subside: and joy when there's a bright, golden haze on the meadow again.

Everything old is new again. And when it comes to the classic musical "Oklahoma!" director and choreographer Rachel Bertone likes it that way. Indeed, Bertone knew when she decided to open her second season as artistic director at Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston (RMT) with the oft-produced 1943 musical - the first collaboration between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, which had its out-of-town tryout, under its original title, "Away We Go!" at Boston's Colonial Theatre - that she wanted to give the show a fresh perspective while respecting its rich history.

Director Rachel Bertone makes this musical new and fresh with her vision and keen eye for casting the right people in the right roles. She infuses her 40 member cast with high energy from start to finish... Rachel keeps the pacing of the show moving all night long. She creates many picture postcard moments in this show and her choreography is breathtaking and stupendous. She brings out the comic and dramatic moments perfectly in this well-known show.

The second and final production of Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston's 2022 season is Stephen Schwartz's PIPPIN, originally produced on the Broadway stage in 1972 with direction and choreography by Bob Fosse, and revived/reimagined in 2013 by Diane Paulus at the American Repertory Theater before going to Broadway.

Reagle's Pippin makes for a fun evening, and this production really accentuates the many comic aspects of the play. Singleton, St. George and Katie Anne Clark bring their comic talents to their respective roles, and the material still seems as fresh as when Pippin debuted on Broadway in 1972.

[Rachel Bertone is] already thinking about the future and hopes to expand educational programming, add more concerts and revues, and ultimately provide an opportunity to workshop new plays.
